The story of Krastina as told by her granddaughter

Born in the countryside of Bulgaria to wealthy parents, Krastina grew up minding the family farms with her two brothers. Ousted by her father for falling in love with a commoner, she eloped and got married to him moving to the capital city. Struggles followed her for many years, from losing an infant, to famine and wartime. She and her husband continuously moved from place to place with a small child, trying to make ends meet, many times going to bed hungry so that whatever little food they had could go to her family.

Always the hard worker from a young age, they eventually saved enough to buy a small home. Working in the construction field as a crane operator for many years, she is determined to expand the small one-bedroom home. Gathering building materials slowly and enlisting the help of friends and family they eventually build their modest but comfortable home. Working alongside the construction workers at her house, she would only stop to prepare and serve lunch for them, then would go back outside and continue helping with anything that needed to be done.

Always strong willed and determined, Krastina followed her kids to the USA and helped raise her grandchildren, as well as her 2 great-grandchildren.  She was the epitome of what a strong woman was made of. Even though her life was full of suffering and challenges she never flinched, and always kept on fighting.

Unfortunately, she had to leave this life in just as much pain, but we take solace in knowing that she is finally at peace with her beloved husband, grandson and mother by her side.  We will be forever grateful for everything you selflessly did for us, even in your darkest hours, for your family meant the world to you. We will miss you dearly! Love you eternally, Pepo, Kristin, Eric, Justin, Samantha, and Danielle .
