Muriel Walzer Klein, born September 15, 1920 in Hempstead, NY died peacefully in her sleep on November 14, 2024 at the age of 104.
She received her B.S. in Elementary Education from New York University and her M.A. from Teachers College, Columbia University. She spent about 40 years teaching fifth and sixth grades at the Shelter Rock School in Manhasset, L.I., New York. She also served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Graduate Library School of Long Island University in Greenvale, New York. In 1969 she published a book of plays for children designed to encourage young people to read. The book is called From Plays into Reading.
Muriel Klein was married to Leo Klein from 1956 until his death in 1965. They had two sons Gerald (and his wife Mary) and Jonathan (and his wife Rebecca) who both now reside in California along with Muriel’s grandchildren Katherine, Lillian, Tristian and Taylor. Upon her retirement from teaching in 1982, Muriel lived in Longwood, Florida and was an active volunteer at the Orlando Museum of Art. She moved to California in 1997 where she resided until her death.
Funeral Service on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, 11:30 a.m. at Kleinberg Funeral Services, 3930 Long Beach Road, Island Park. Interment to follow at Montefiore Cemetery, Springfield Gardens, Queens, NY.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in honor of Muriel Walzer Klein.
